Who are we?

Our mission statement

To encourage and support volunteering on the Sunshine Coast

Volunteering Sunshine Coast (VSC) is an independent not-for-profit organisation committed to building the local community sector on the Sunshine Coast, providing services to an area extending from south of Gympie to the north of Caboolture and west to Kilcoy.

We were established in 2003 as a result of Volunteering Queensland seeing a need for a one stop shop which community groups could access for support. We were incorporated in 2004.

We have over 150 community organisations as members of VSC plus we also offer assistance to the broader volunteer community.

Our goals

  • To support people to make informed choices about volunteer work;
  • To refer volunteers to not-for-profit organisations across all sectors of the community;
  • To promote best practice standards, including training, when managing volunteers; and
  • To encourage the government, community and corporate sectors to recognise the value of volunteering.

The services we offer

Volunteer linking:

Community organisations seeking volunteers can become members of VSC and we will assist them in sourcing volunteers with the appropriate skills levels - saving them time.

Individuals seeking volunteering opportunities are interviewed face-to-face and referred to appropriate positions, taking into account their interests and skill levels.

Resources:

We have a lending library and a large number of procedures to assist in the best practice of managing volunteers.

A "skill bank" has been established of people willing to assist volunteer managers in areas such as business management, submission writing, financial accountability, risk management, legal queries and governance.

These services are available at no charge.

Training:

Regular training is available to the general volunteer community or training can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of individual community groups.

We also provide training to volunteers.

Events support:

Often groups have one-off events and need volunteers to help with the many varied tasks. We assist the organisations to fill these roles by contacting our large database of interested volunteers.

Corporate volunteering:

Many corporate organisations have programs to encourage their employees to undertake volunteer work.

We assist the corporate organisations in placing their employees into volunteer positions as individuals, as a group, or as part of an event or project.

Supporting the local community:

In assisting community groups our role is varied and ever changing. Despite having limited funding we always endeavor to assist with the varied requests of community groups.

We are pleased to assist these wonderful volunteers and community groups who support our broader local community.

Our members

All not-for-profit organisations are welcome to become members of Volunteering Sunshine Coast. There is an annual membership fee based on a scale relating to the number of paid employees. Corporate membership is also available. Full membership entitles members to:

  • the referral service;
  • a monthly newsletter;
  • information regarding current volunteering issues, supplied by the peak national and state bodies;
  • material to promote National Volunteers Week and International Volunteers Day; and
  • networking opportunities.

Our volunteers

Volunteers come from the general community as well as through referral from Centrelink and Job Network Providers.

After making contact with the service, volunteers are invited to an interview to discuss their skills and interests. An appropriate organisation is contacted and a referral is made.
